This project was one of my first tries at doing environments. My original plan was just to make the buildings and landscape, but near the end of the project I decided to add in the spaceship as well, which I had created earlier to test out various kitbash parts I had modelled.
Everything was created in Blender — I made the ground material by painting various masks for seamless textures, the rocks by using displacement maps on subdivided rough shapes, and the bushes and grass using Blender's hair system and masked textures. I made the building using mostly image projection methods, taking photos of doors, windows, etc., mapping them on to planes, and using them as guides to add physical details such as frames and boards.
